Embassies and Consulates of the Republic of Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan Diplomatic Service

Uzbek diplomacy has centuries-old experience. According to written sources, diplomacy in Central Asia was initiated as far back as in the time of Amir Temur reign.

Thus it is known that the envoys of Spanish King Henry III, French King Charles VI, English King Richard II and other monarchs were sent to the court of Amir Temur to express their utmost respect to the great ruler and to offer him friendship and trade contacts. In 1403 Ruy Gonzalez de Clavijo, practically the first Ambassador of Europe to Asia, headed the embassy of the King of Castile and Henry III from Trastamara dynasty. In his turn, Amir Temur sent as his envoy to English and French courts a Christian Archbishop John from Sultaniya (modern Iran).

Thanks to Timur's diplomatic efforts Europe and Asia started to be perceived as a unique geopolitical space of Medieval international relations.

After gaining its sovereignty in 1991, Uzbekistan has gained an opportunity to independently conduct its foreign policy. Establishment of relations with many countries on the principles of equality rights and mutual understanding, non-interference to internal affairs of other states, helps Uzbekistan be integrated in the world community and develop the international political, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation.

Uzbekistan Embassies and ConsulatesSo far Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with more than 120 countries of the world.

Today 42 embassies of foreign countries, 1 Consulate General, 8 honorary consuls, 9 representatives of international organizations, 5 international financial organizations, 3 trade delegates with diplomatic status are operating in Tashkent.

At the same time Uzbekistan embassies have been established in 33 countries of the world: Austria, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belgium, UK, Egypt, Israel, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, China, Latvia, Malaysia, UAE, Poland, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the USA, Singapore, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Germany, the Republic of Korea, Japan.

Besides, in major cities of some foreign countries there have been opened Uzbekistan Consulates-General. Among them are such cities as: Athens (Greece), Bangkok (Thailand), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Dubai (UAE), Mazari Sharif (Iran), New York ( USA), Istanbul (Turkey), Frankfurt (Germany), Novosibirsk (Russia) and Shanghai (China).

Altogether there are 46 diplomatic and consular representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries and international organizations, including permanent missions at the UN in New York and the UN European department in Geneva.

Each Uzbekistan embassy represents the Republic of Uzbekistan abroad and handles major diplomatic issues, such as transmits messagesof Uzbek government to the government of the host country and vice versa, prepares international treatiesand official state visits, promotes Uzbekistan’s culture, economy and science in the host country. Consulates handle minor diplomatic issues like issuing visas to foreigners, promoting trade through assisting companies to invest and to import and export goods and services both inwardly to Uzbekistan and outward to their host country, and taking care of migrants, tourists, and expatriates.

In order to enter Uzbekistan every visitor from every country (except for some CIS countries) must have a valid visa issued by an Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate General abroad. Nationals of the countries where Uzbekistan is not represented by any of its Diplomatic or Consulate Missions can apply for Uzbek visa at the Uzbekistan Embassy or General Consulate located in the country other than the country of their citizenship.

More details on Uzbekistan visa regulations can be found on ‘Visa support’ page of the company website.
