Walking in the Footsteps of Zahir ad-Din Mohammed Babur

The descendent of Timur, the outstanding Uzbek poet, scholar and statesman – Zahir ad-Din Mohammaed Babur was born in Andijan on February 14th, 1483. His father Omar Shaikh Mirza – the great grandson of Amir Temur, was the ruler of Fergana principality while his mother Kutlug Nigar begim was the daughter of Yunuskhan, the renowned ruler of Tashkent and descendent of Genghis khan.

At the age of 12, after the death of his father in 1494, Babur ascended to the throne and became the ruler of Fergana principality. By that time the entire territory of Temur’s empire has been conquered by the Sheybanids dynasty. Babur undertakes tow campaigns against Samarkand in 1498 and in 1500 -1501 in order to liberate the city but failed to achieve success.
